DESCRIPTION:August Garden Tour \nTour of Master Gardener Gus Vizgirda’s garden on Saturday\, August 15th\, from 9:30am to 11:00am.  The garden is located at 290 Sliger Road in Jonesborough. \nGus and his wife are eager to show and share what they are building.  Visitors will see their home compost bins and rainwater storage. \nThe yard has raised beds with herbs\, tomatoes\, and peppers. A small orchard holds peach trees\, Paw Paws\, and newly planted heritage apple trees that he grafted himself. Blueberry and raspberry bushes\, as well as a native wildflower plot in the making (A five-year project)\, grow alongside a greenhouse. He will stand by to answer your questions. He has some shade to escape the August heat\, and visitors can park on either side of the gravel road.   \nSummer garden tours are for SAPS members.

Everyone should be ready to pick and eat as they tour.”\nSteve will give a 20 minute talk on chitosan\, biochar and how he is regenerating and protecting against pathogens in their garden with a glucosamine called chitosan. He will give up to 50 attendees free 32-oz bottles of Garden Shield\, made with concentrated chitosan and citric acid\, both EPA-25(b) exempt ingredients for agriculture. It is registered as an exempt pesticide in Tennessee. They are also inspected by the TN Department of Agriculture annually\, as a plant producer. Please bring a chair for the talk and a gallon freezer bag for a free biochar sample.\nTheir website is https://chitosanglobal.com. Steve just published The Chitosan Handbook\, which is available free on the website.\nSheridan says that parking on the street is fine\, and they have a circular\ndriveway that can park at least 6 cars. Still it’s good to carpool if you can.\nThey are in the middle of some plumbing work\, so they are sorry that bathrooms\nwill not be available.\nAll SAPS members are welcome to attend.\nIf rain is forecast\, the tour will be rescheduled.

DESCRIPTION:April 23 \nReady for a lovely springtime HIKING ADVENTURE? Celebrate the day after Earth day as we hike up into nearby Bays Mountain Park from Laurel Run Park. This will be a great chance to discover the amazing diversity of our earth’s wildflowers and native trees. It will also be a chance to view two small but dramatic waterfalls. \nPlease note that this is a challenging 4+ mile hike. Participants must be prepared for unbridged creek crossings\, some very muddy trails\, a few steep climbs\, and the possibility of stinging nettles\, black bears and venomous snakes. Wear long pants and sturdy hiking footwear. Bring rain-gear and snacks. \nWe’ll meet at the big parking lot uphill from the Warriors’ Path headquarters (the former pool parking lot)\, departing PROMPTLY at 1:00 PM to drive to the trailhead.
