Overachievers: How to Know and Choose

the Best Plant for Your Space

Thursday, February 21, at 7 p.m.

Dr. Pulte will help us sort through the endless stream of new plants on the market and focus on the important, factors of personal style and the mood you wish to create in your garden. You will learn about some of the most garden worthy plants, explore some gardening history, and get clued into what the scientific name of a plant can tell you about their garden worthiness.

Andrew J. Pulte grew up in the nursery industry in Grand Island, NE. He received his BS in horticulture from the University of Nebraska in December 2000. Following graduation he worked first for the National Arbor Day Foundation in the education department. This was followed by work at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska. While at the zoo, Andy was in charge of all recruitment and training for the zoo’s 650 full-time and seasonal employees. Andy received a masters degree and Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in the area of public horticulture. His current responsibilities include teaching, advising and coordination of the UT Plant Sciences undergraduate program. His additional responsibilities include the CASNR scholarship committee and assisting UT Gardens programming. An engaging speaker, Andy has spoken widely to diverse audiences of gardeners and professionals alike. His articles have been published in Fine Gardening, State by State Gardening and many other gardening publications. He is also an Internationally Certified Arborist.

From Interstate I-26, take exit 17 and turn towards Jonesborough, go past Boones Creek Christian Church, through red light, and BrightRidge is on the left. Take 2nd entrance and go around to the back of the building to enter the auditorium.


We are offering to members a few recommendations for anyone interested in garden tours and travel both within the United States and Overseas.  Members have travelled with each of these groups and feel confident in suggesting them to you.
